Across the Stono River from the city of Charleston lies John’s Island, known for its produce farms and its picturesque, oak-tree-lined roads. It is home to the Angel Oak, a 1,400 year old live oak tree that resides near the center of the island. Adjacent to John’s Island is Wadmalaw Island, a summer home to many Charlestonians and home of the Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea farm in America. Also nearby are Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island, which accommodate vacationers, snowbirds, retirees, and golf and tennis enthusiasts in a private, upscale resort setting.

John’s Island real estate varies widely in the types of properties that are available today. The classic John’s Island properties are the large horse farms, the agricultural land, and the sprawling estates that dot along the Wadmalaw Sound and the Stono River. Recently developed new home subdivisions have emerged, but they are generally confined to a concentrated area close to the city of Charleston. If natural beauty, space, and privacy are high on your list, consider John’s Island when looking for a new place to call home.
